Chris Newson

Chris Newson is an oil painter based in Leiston on the Suffolk coast, where he keeps a gallery and framing shop on the High Street with the door open in all weathers. He was born in nearby Saxmundham.

He works in series. The Sea Pictures are seascapes of the Suffolk coast, Summers Coming gathers flower paintings and figures in landscape, and the Little Heads are portraits, several of them of himself. The Suffolk artist Maggi Hambling has been his mentor, and her Scallop on Aldeburgh beach has been a long-running subject for him.
