Anna Dixon-Smith

Anna Dixon-Smith studied sculpture at St Martin's School of Art, which formed the basis for her love of drawing and painting. Her work falls into two main categories — still-life painting and life drawing. She creates energetic drawings of the figure in charcoal or ink, particularly enjoying quick poses that try to capture the essence of moving figures, dancers or acrobats. In contrast to the vibrancy and immediacy of life drawing, at her home studio she paints still lifes using flowers from her garden and everyday pots and jugs from her kitchen. She often works on a series of paintings at the same time, using layers of oil paint and collage. Her love of flowers stems from working as a florist before becoming a full-time artist.
