North House Gallery
Stringently curated and beautifully presented, North House Gallery is undoubtedly one of the top art galleries in the East of England and always worth a visit.
Founded in 1999 by Penelope Hughes-Stanton, North House Gallery is set in a Georgian house overlooking the River Stour estuary in Manningtree - once the studio of the painter and wood-engraver Blair Hughes-Stanton. It stages a frequent and varied run of exhibitions taking in paintings, drawings, sculpture, original prints and books by modern and contemporary artists from East Anglia and further afield.
The premises also take in a working letterpress workshop, its historic presses and equipment passed down through generations of the Hughes-Stanton family. Recent programming has ranged across ecological themes, figurative painting and printmaking, bringing together established and emerging artists.
