Café Wall: Capturing Cambridge

29 Oct 2026 - 5 Jan 2027

The Café Wall Gallery is a showcase for local established and emerging artists, bringing their work to a diverse and appreciative audience.

Capturing Cambridge brings together the work of nine artists, each offering their own perspective on Cambridge and its surrounding landscape. From photography to painting, the exhibition explores the city through a variety of styles and viewpoints. From familiar landmarks and historic architecture to quieter corners and changing landscapes, these works capture the character of Cambridge. Together, they offer a chance to see the city through the eyes of the artists who live, work and create within it, revealing both recognisable places and new ways of looking at the familiar.

The artists:

Sarah Allbrook: Sarah is passionate about painting en plein air around Cambridge, and draws upon an Impressionistic style to distil the atmospheric and ever-changing qualities of the natural world.

Peter Bungay: Focusing on local landscapes, the area bordering the river Cam near Great Shelford, Peter Bungay explores geometry, textures and colours as they change over the seasons.

Emily Fowke: As a shiatsu practitioner (based around nature-centred Daoist philosophy), Emily's work aptly synthesises observation with extracting the energy within landscapes around Cambridgeshire.

John Preston: Using nitric acid and a range of techniques to etch on zinc plates, John's atmospheric images subtly balance line, tone and empty space.

Keith Taylor: For twenty years, Keith has been capturing scenes of Cambridge, investigating the relationship between seasons and iconic landmarks as well as quieter corners of the surrounding countryside.

Andrew Tindall: Andrew aims to highlight the colours of nature and capture the simple views around him to connect to the landscape, altogether providing a deep sense of belonging in his paintings.

Sameer Tulaskar: Painting en plein air, Sameer directly captures light, movement and mood, translating fleeting moments into expressive line work and layered washes.

Marcus Walder: Painting in oil on panels, Marcus depicts the sensation and specific quality of light in a chosen subject via loose brushstrokes, the interplay of tones and a dynamic composition.

Hang Zhou: Drawing upon her skills as an architect and experimenting with colour and technique, Hang's work explores the passage of time and captures Cambridge as a living city.
