Hayletts Gallery: Little Gems

Sally Patrick of Wivenhoe, curator and owner of Hayletts Gallery, is delighted to present Little Gems, a vibrant exhibition celebrating small works by some of East Anglia's and Modern Britain's most treasured artists. Hosted at The Old Grocery Store, in Wivenhoe, the show brings together an exceptional mix of regional talent and nationally acclaimed names.

The exhibition showcases leading East Anglian artists including Arabella Shand, whose imaginative, deliciously colourful figures and flowers whisk viewers into a dreamlike world; Michael Smee, who captures the atmosphere of traditional pubs with affectionate insight, portraying 'punters' deep in conversation or quietly lost in thought; Anne Schwegmann-Fielding, whose ingenious, jewel-like mosaic masks never fail to excite and enchant or Barbara Peirson's charming still lives and beach scenes which exude sublime gentle colours and unique vision.

Visitors will also have the rare opportunity to acquire small works by some of the Modern British greats. Highlights include hand-signed engravings by Great Bardfield artist Edward Bawden; experimental paintings and collages by our very own Humphrey Spender; a charming lithograph, Aldeburgh Boat, by the much-loved Mary Fedden; and a striking original work by distinguished St Ives abstract painter Sir Terry Frost. These are shown alongside pieces by his son Anthony Frost, and by celebrated printmaker Anita Klein, who documents family life with warmth, wit, and integrity, among many other notable artists to explore in the exhibition.

Sally will be making full use of the charming space at The Old Grocery Store, presenting a continually evolving selection of little gems. As soon as an artwork finds a new home, another will take its place, ensuring the exhibition remains fresh, lively, and full of surprises throughout its run.
