Cosmic Carpets: Dave Cassell

There is a strong element in the work of the juxtaposition of chaos and order, using patterns in nature against man-made structures which are often derived from natural forms. The title 'Cosmic Carpets' comes from looking at tribal carpets and the forms and colours in them that have strongly influenced many of the pieces. The print collages are constructed from prints made from a very diverse range of techniques, and the acrylic on board pieces are created by many layers of overlaid painting using different techniques. All the pieces aim to be meditative rather than portray any specific meaning.
