A Colourful Escape: Sophie Burkett

A Colourful Escape brings together recent and earlier paintings by Norwich-based artist Sophie Burkett, exploring colour, travel, wildlife, human connection and the poetry of everyday experience.

Working predominantly in acrylic with considered touches of gold leaf, Burkett creates expressive compositions that sit between portraiture, wildlife and imagined narrative. Zebras, leopards, peacocks and figures recur throughout the work, becoming visual motifs through which ideas of freedom, resilience, curiosity and possibility are explored.

Rather than seeking to document a place or subject literally, Burkett is interested in capturing the emotional character of an experience: the energy of colour, the pleasure of discovery and the quiet moments of beauty found within everyday life.
