Poppy Jackson: Under Her Protection
7 Nov 2026 - 5 Dec 2026
Created in response to the Suffolk landscape, Poppy Jackson's exhibition explores maternal embodiment as the foundation of human existence and activity.
Working on site with locally sourced materials and involving her daughters and the wider community, Jackson's practice makes visible the relationships between motherhood, landscape and identity, while questioning the extractive ways in which women's bodies are controlled, erased and commodified in these settings.
Emerging within an increasingly divisive political climate in Suffolk, the exhibition considers how motherhood is being weaponised within narratives of identity, protection and belonging. All human life begins in maternal embodiment, yet historically the maternal body has been a battleground for competing ideologies, power and control. Jackson challenges this appropriation, reclaiming maternal experience through these tensions as complex, connective and matriarchal: a vital social and political force in its own right.
