Monica Alikoviene

Monica Alikoviene is an artist based in Cambridge who paints mainly in oils. A painting usually begins with something that has stayed in her mind: a particular gesture, the way light falls across a room, an arrangement of familiar objects or a moment between people. She returns to these observations through painting, as a way of looking at them more closely.

She builds each painting gradually, using an indirect method: working in layers, she adjusts the colour, light and detail as the picture develops.

An active member of the Cambridge Drawing Society, she takes part regularly in its twice-yearly exhibitions, and her work won the Public Favourite Vote at the Society's Spring Exhibition in 2024. The same year she was a finalist in the Art Unlimited International Competition and exhibited at The Malthouse Gallery. In 2025 her work was selected for the ING Discerning Eye exhibition at Mall Galleries in London, and in 2026 one of her paintings was chosen for the Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition, also at Mall Galleries.

Alongside exhibiting, she gives painting demonstrations and enjoys talking with visitors and collectors about how her paintings begin and develop, and hearing what other people notice in them, including things she may not have considered herself.
