Peter Cavaciuti

Peter Cavaciuti is a professional artist, teacher and Tea Master, working from Koshosai, his studio on Oxford Road in Cambridge. He paints landscape, figures and flowers in ink and watercolour on handmade papers, work inspired by his love of East Asian culture and rooted in the East Asian painting tradition. Among his paintings are Happiness of the Fish, Five Spring Orchids, Vermillion Bamboo, Memory of Mountains and Po Mo, First Sign of Autumn. He is represented in Taiwan by Spacial and Timing Arts.

He teaches East Asian painting widely across Cambridge, with weekly courses at Parkside Community College, at Storey's Field Centre in Eddington, at the Netherhall School and at Coleridge Community College, alongside one-day group workshops through the year. In August 2025 he showed Song Lin Zhai, Paintings from the Pine Forest Studio, an exhibition of contemporary paintings in the East Asian tradition by himself and a selection of his students, at Trinity Hall's Wychfield site in Cambridge.

He also leads Koshosai Chado, the Way of Tea. Chado is a Japanese art form but one whose values he sees as common to all cultures and to humanity itself: a tea gathering is the thoughtful and considered creation of a unique event, shared between host and guests, and a favourite expression is ichigo ichie, one time, one meeting. Meetings are held several times a week and instruction is given to the individual within the group.
