Katherine Kingston
One of the most promising -- and witty -- artists to emerge in recent years, her sculptural installations are object-rebuses satirising or wryly commenting on British culture - preconceptions and stereotypes, especially.
Katherine Kingston is a mixed media artist and printmaker based in Suffolk. She explores identity, language and the everyday object, through sculptures, installation and film. Graduating in 2026 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at University of Suffolk, she has been jointly awarded The Art Station Prize for her degree show.
Kingston has exhibited in the group shows (Make It Count) at both the Waterfront Building, University of Suffolk and at Powerhouse, Orford Ness, and (Novus) at The George, Wickham Market. As a member of Ipswich Art Society she has regularly exhibited in their Annual Open Exhibition at St Clements Art Centre, Ipswich.
Her residencies include (Make It Count) at Orford Ness, (Free Range) at Letheringham Lodge, Wickham Market, and (Camera O) at Orford Ness.
Artist Statement
Inspired by the feminist slogan 'the personal is political' Kingston's practice explores identity, trace and language through print, assemblages and film. Reflecting on her first-hand experiences of femininity and loss, she employs skills traditionally considered as feminine pastimes to create emotive textile works that contrast an unfinished aesthetic with considered processes. Her sculptures harness the uncanniness of domestic objects, portraying the body through absence. Words are also fundamental to her practice as she exploits wordplay and parody to interrogate the fine line between the tragic and the humorous.
