Janet Roberts
Janet Roberts is a ceramic artist and sculptor based in Wivenhoe, Essex. Her love of clay began at school, and after years of dipping in and out of ceramics she began selling her work once she settled in Wivenhoe and its thriving artist community. She now works from a small home studio. Trading as Time and Tide Ceramics, she is inspired by the tidal Colne estuary at Wivenhoe, combining hand-built clay with driftwood she collects along the shore and coiled copper wire. Her work ranges from serene ceramic wall masks and 'green man' faces to organic vessels and bird baths, stacked totem columns, seedpod and coral forms, and everlasting clay flowers. Her pieces are stocked at The Minories Shop (Colchester), Fire & Flux Ceramics (Norwich), Ferini Art Gallery (Pakefield) and Whimbrel Art Gallery (Tollesbury), as well as from her Wivenhoe studio.
Artist Statement
My love of clay began at school, where we had a pottery studio. Having dipped in and out of ceramics for many years, I started selling my work when we moved to Wivenhoe, which has a thriving artist community. I now work from a small studio at home. TIMEANDTIDECERAMICS is a title drawn from a variety of sculptural pieces I was inspired to make from clay and the driftwood that I collect on the tidal estuary at Wivenhoe in Essex. I hope you enjoy looking at my work as much as I enjoy making it. I can't imagine a day without creating.
