Jane Watson
Jane Watson is a self-taught artist living and working in Wivenhoe, on the North East coast of Essex. She began painting when she and her husband Neil moved into their home, initially making abstracts and experimenting with colour and texture, and now works across landscapes, seascapes, still life, animals and people. Her collages are built from hand-printed tissue papers, using techniques including linocuts and gel-plate printing, and the backgrounds of her paintings are often worked in heavily textured acrylic. She has sold through the Saatchi online gallery and exhibits regularly around Colchester and Essex, in Norfolk, and in southwest France near Carcassonne. One of her collages, 'Home', was featured on Channel 4's Grayson's Art Club. She is a co-organiser of the Wivenhoe Art Trail and takes commissions for pet portraits and house collages.
Artist Statement
The area where I live on the North East coast of Essex provides me with plenty of inspiration. Although the subject matter of my work is quite diverse, there is a naive theme and it has been described as sparse, calming and meditative, with an influence of the St Ives artists, such as Alfred Wallis.
