Clare Thomas
Clare Thomas is a painter living in Walberswick, Suffolk. Art A Level and study at Morley College came first; a different path followed, with many years spent travelling and working in Africa for the Foreign Office. Throughout that time, Thomas resolved to take up painting again once there was the time and space to do so. The move to Walberswick provided exactly that, and the practice has resumed where it left off, now from a garden studio.
Artist Statement
I work mainly in oils as I love its viscosity and richness and am exploring different themes and compositions, from still life, landscapes and people. I take inspiration from the everyday objects and scenes around me, hoping to make something new or suggest a different way of looking from the paintings' colours, juxtaposition and arrangement.
