Cherish Marshall
Cherish Marshall (b.1995) was brought up on a council estate in Chelmsford, Essex. She describes her early life as a mix of the Jeremy Kyle Show, nil by mouth and Shameless (but without the humour!)
Her first love of art was painting and the human body, working predominantly in the tradition of figurative painting. This led to Cherish experimenting with the shape and form of the canvases she was painting on, finally evolving as a full embrace of sculpture as a medium. This turned out to be a critical period in her development as she began to turn inwards and her work became increasingly personal. Drawing upon her experiences as a teenager and of growing up as the first generation of digital natives she began to question her role within the world, especially as a woman, investigating sexuality, it's place within social media and its broader societal consequences. She has recently returned to painting to compliment her three-dimensional work with a series of pieces exploring childhood trauma and the fantasy of escape.
