Annie Bielecka
Annie Bielecka (Annie Bielecka Jones) is a textile and fine artist born and raised in the Welsh-speaking community of Cricieth, Gwynedd, and now living on the banks of the River Colne in Wivenhoe. She describes her approach as "painting with textiles" and works primarily in textiles alongside oil and acrylic on canvas, using highly decorative techniques that cross the boundary between fine and applied art. She is a member of Colchester Art Society and the Welsh Women's Art Association, and regularly takes part in the Wivenhoe Art Trail. Her commissioned work includes an altar frontal and side hangings for St Mary's Church, Wivenhoe, and a chasuble for the Cathedral of St John the Divine, New York. She held the solo show "Land and Sea" (prints and textiles) at the Nottage Maritime Institute, Wivenhoe, in 2018, and a summer retrospective at Minerva Arts Centre, Llanidloes, in 2023. She was selected for Arddangosfa Agored 2022 (Open Exhibition) at Plas Brondanw and named a Cricieth 100 Alumnus at the 100th anniversary celebrations of Neuadd Goffa (Memorial Hall) in 2022. Her website is held in the permanent collection of Welsh artists at the National Library of Wales. She works from a studio at Wivenhoe Business Centre, Brook Street.
Artist Statement
Carefully crafted textile designs are inspired by sea travels, reflections on the landscape of my Welsh upbringing in Snowdonia - and life on the banks of the River Colne in Wivenhoe. I use highly decorative techniques crossing the boundary between fine and applied art.
