Adria Meserve
Adria Meserve is a printmaker and illustrator who makes her prints at the Curwen Print Study Centre in Great Thurlow, Suffolk, where she works two to three days a week. Her printmaking focuses on landscape, and she works across many techniques, including screen print, monoprint, photolithography, drypoint, solar plate and collagraph.
Her background is rooted in the visual arts. Having grown up in New England and moved to North Yorkshire at the age of twelve, she gained a BA in the History of Art at the Courtauld Institute of Art, travelled in India, and qualified as an art teacher at Middlesex University, later taking an MA in Illustration at the University of Brighton. She went on to write and illustrate picture books: her first, Smog the City Dog, was nominated for the Smarties Book Prize, and her non-fiction The Comedy, History and Tragedy of William Shakespeare received a special commendation from the School Library Association. Alongside her own work she teaches, illustrates and runs creative workshops, and her next illustrated book will be made with printmaking techniques at the Curwen.
Artist Statement
I completed the Fine Art printmaking certificate at the Curwen Print Study Centre, starting in 2025, and loved every minute of it. It has injected a new lease of creativity, joy, and visual freedom into my work. Having found the ideal space to grow, I am excited and fully determined to continue printmaking and take my practice to the next level. My printmaking focuses on landscape, using natural forms as metaphor for the human experience and storytelling.
