The Old Fire Engine House Gallery

The Old Fire Engine House Gallery shows and sells contemporary art throughout a three-storey Georgian house in central Ely, a short walk west of the cathedral. The gallery has exhibited established and emerging artists since 1968. Its first-floor gallery space has large windows overlooking Ely Cathedral and Palace Green, and it hosts solo exhibitions alongside a changing selection of work for sale across the house.

The house was built in the mid 18th century on the site of a farmhouse, and Ely's horse-drawn fire engine was kept there at the turn of the century; a photograph of it hangs above the fire in the bar. The building is also a restaurant, set up in 1968 by Ann Jarman with two friends, and has a large walled garden of old English fruit trees, herbs and flowers.

Visitors do not need to be dining to see the gallery. Artists wishing to submit work may send up to two images by email, with sizes, prices and further details.
