The Influence of John Constable

Staged in the 250th-anniversary year of John Constable's birth, this exhibition explores Constable's influence on the life and work of Sir Alfred Munnings. Both artists were born in Suffolk and steeped in its natural beauty, a shared formation that shaped Munnings' painting and, it can be argued, fed his rejection of Modern Art movements. Two rooms are filled with Munnings' sky studies and landscapes that Constable would have recognised, alongside a Constable sketchbook (or perhaps not) given by Violet to her husband in 1953.
