Ruby Bellamy
Ruby Rose Bellamy is a visual artist based in Fenland; she graduated from Norwich University of the Arts with a First Class Honours in Fine Art. Her creative practice focuses on sharing the importance of handiwork, particularly quilt making and embroidery.
Her work draws inspiration from the home, her sense of self, and local landscapes. Ruby uses second-hand materials where possible, looking to extend the lives of hand-me-downs, and creating a more sustainable practice.
In 2026, Ruby created the 'Class Portrait Quilt' in collaboration with Blackfield Creatives and the Leverington Primary Academy Class of 2026; the project was also supported by the Norfolk & Norwich Festival Bursary Scheme. The Quilt used craft skills to promote mindfulness, and open conversations with the Year 6 Class about their feelings towards their upcoming move to secondary school.
Alongside her creative practice, Ruby works with a number of arts organisations and individuals. Since 2024, she has worked as Manager of Wisbech Gallery, where she is passionate about increasing access to the arts in Wisbech and the surrounding areas.
Artist Statement
My practice is led by using embroidery, print making and drawing to show the world through my eyes. I often find myself drawing inspiration from the Fenland landscapes, and the places I travel to; I'm particularly interested in following the movement of plants, water and birds through my work.
My works form in response to where I am, and I often take the time to build upon what I have experienced at a later date when I have had time to reflect on the feelings of where I am. Mark-making is a core foundation of my practice, using thread, charcoals and pencil to create organic, flowing imagery,
