The Cut
One of the most dynamic and active culture hubs in North Suffolk, there's always something innovative and high-quality going on at this buzzing hub.
The Cut is a rural arts centre in a large converted heritage maltings on New Cut, a few minutes' walk from the centre of Halesworth and the town's railway station. It is a multi-function cultural hub: an arts centre, a theatre, a cinema, a dance studio, a cafe and a set of studios, all under one roof.
Its visual arts programme runs in two galleries of 150 square metres each, the Malt Room Gallery and the Cafe Concourse, which show a changing series of exhibitions through the year. Alongside them the building holds a 208-seat auditorium with a full theatre and music programme, weekly cinema, a sprung-floor dance studio, meeting rooms, an educational programme of classes and courses, thirteen business and studio units, and the MALT Experience, an immersive space on the town's malting industry.
It is run by the charity New Cut Arts, founded by James Holloway, and staffed by a small team and a roster of volunteers. Around a thousand people pass through the building every week. Artists interested in showing there can approach the centre directly about its gallery spaces.
