Halesworth Gallery

The Halesworth Gallery is an artist run exhibition space in a former almshouse at Steeple End, opposite St Mary's Church in Halesworth. The building, which lies alongside St Mary's churchyard and once served as the town's almshouses, is mentioned in the Manorial Court Roll of 1478. The Halesworth Art Gallery Association was founded in 1966 by Jack and Sheila Arbuthnot and four others, to exhibit modern painting and sculpture of the highest possible standard on a non-profit-making basis.

The gallery runs a season from April to October across three exhibition spaces. It opens with a Young Artists' Show and an Open Show taking in up to sixty local artists, followed by six selected exhibitions of three and a half weeks each. Applications from individual artists and from groups are considered by a selection committee. An opening party is held from 6pm to 8pm on the Friday before each show, and everyone is welcome.

The committee is Michael Ayres (Treasurer), Paul Cope, Peter Gauld, Neil Hanger, Zoe Mair, Val Bennett and Rob Rutterford, with exhibitions selected by Paul Cope, Viv Burns, Neil Hanger, Rob Rutterford and Peter Gauld.
