War Craft

War Craft explores how and why objects were created during wartime, and shares the stories of the soldiers, civilians and prisoners of war who made them. Visitors discover the ingenuity, artistry and self-expression that transformed shell-cases and ammunition tins from objects of killing into mementoes. Spanning centuries and continents, the exhibition brings together prints, commemorative material and intimate personal items — engraved coins, messages home — that reflect an enduring, collective desire to humanise the inherent inhumanity of conflict.
