The Hay Wain: Walking Constable's Landscape
11 Jul 2026 – 4 Oct 2026
Recommended
Marking the 250th anniversary of John Constable's birth, this exhibition explores themes of landscape, place and walking through unprecedented loans brought to Suffolk for the first time. Constable's iconic masterpiece The Hay Wain makes its first ever visit to the county it depicts, shown alongside major loans such as Dedham Vale and the museum's own Constable collection, including the two intimate paintings of his childhood home, Golding Constable's Flower Garden and Golding Constable's Kitchen Garden. It also features Constable Ambisonic, an immersive sound artwork of field recordings made by artist Stuart Bowditch at the locations of Constable's most famous paintings as they appear today.
