The Kirins: Stephen and Lorna Kirin

Stephen and Lorna Kirin work collaboratively on paintings, prints and sculpture from their studio in Suffolk. They first met in 1986 at North East London Polytechnic, studying sculpture and painting, and have worked together since 2016. Both continue to make work individually alongside the collaboration.

Their subject matter is often steeped in classical sculpture and painting, and in the questions those raise for a contemporary audience. In their own words: "We find the collaborative process a highly liberating one; together emphasising each other's marks and forms without preciousness. Sometimes we work in tandem, others alternately, but always aim to be as fluid, expansive and as creative as possible."

This is the pair's autumn show at The Angle Gallery, with a preview evening on Saturday 5 September.
