Railway Bridge Commission 2026: Elleanna Chapman — Do Somethin'

Focal Point Gallery's annual Railway Bridge Commission presents a new site-specific public artwork by Southend-born artist Elleanna Chapman. 'Do Somethin'' continues Chapman's exploration of celebrity, identity and popular culture: positioned above Southend High Street, the eyes of Beyoncé and Britney Spears gaze down on passersby, paired with song lyrics rendered in hundreds of thousands of pink rhinestones. Drawing on the artist's working-class Essex upbringing and the 'Essex girl' stereotype, the work reclaims languages of glamour, kitsch and excess to challenge class-based assumptions about taste and cultural value.
