Big Screen Associate Programme: Ravioli Me Away, D.M.S, Heart n Soul, Black Obsidian Sound System
20 Jun 2026 – 25 Sept 2026
Focal Point Gallery is pleased to present a programme of artist moving image to coincide with Rosie Ridgway's exhibition Phantom Power. Works by D.M.S and Heart n Soul, Black Obsidian Sound System, Do Your Own Thing and Heart n Soul accompany a video by Ridgway's band Ravioli Me Away. The four videos bring together music, moving image and collective storytelling by artists and creative communities. Across surreal worlds, sound system culture and expressions of identity, the films celebrate imagination, connection and creative freedom.
Ravioli Me Away, Goblin Town (2016): one of the songs in 'Living is a Myth', the band's 2016 album exploring symptoms of society through its overlapping patterns of ideas and music. Ravioli Me Away are Sian Dorrer, Rosie Ridgway and Alice Theobald, with mutual interests in identity, politics, human relationships, love, gender, class and current affairs.
D.M.S and Heart n Soul, Dancing with the Fortunes (2025): by D.M.S. aka Danielle Green - a visual artist, musician and world-builder - bringing together a cast of 54 original characters, a fully imagined set, an animated storyline and a 12-track album, with iconic contestants battling it out on stage under the watchful eyes of the toughest judges in the game. Developed through one-to-one sessions with Rosie Ridgway and studio time at Heart n Soul's visual arts project the Feel Good Designers.
Black Obsidian Sound System, Collective Hum (2019): a short film exploring the polyphony of collectivity in the desires, motivations and stories that foreground the histories and present(s) of Black British sound, using multiple narration, overlapping voices and the sound of group interviews, meetings and events to soundtrack images of sound system culture. Narrated by Onyeka Igwe, Shenece Oretha, Evan Ifekoya and Nadine Peters.
Do Your Own Thing and Heart n Soul, Fashion (2019): a music video created by the young people at Do Your Own Thing for their song Fashion, with Alicia on lead vocals singing about her love of fashion and the freedom to "create your style, embrace your image, forget what other people think!"
Heart n Soul is an award-winning creative community and arts charity based in Deptford that believes in the power and talents of people with learning disabilities and autistic people. Black Obsidian Sound System (B.O.S.S) was established in 2018 to bring together a community of queer, trans and non-binary black and people of colour involved in art, sound and radical activism.
