Thibault Aedy: Absolute Contact
12 Sep 2026 - 24 Oct 2026
Thibault Aedy's sculptural practice is rooted in the tension between control and rupture, intention and chance. By pushing materials to their logical limits, Aedy creates works in which precision coexists with instability, allowing an object's physical properties to determine both form and outcome. Referencing the language and grammar of Minimalism, his sculptures often begin with geometric structures before subtly undermining the stability and permanence traditionally associated with them. Working frequently with materials chosen for their inherent volatility, Aedy embraces transformation, decay, and the effects of time as integral elements of the work rather than conditions to be resisted. The body remains an implicit presence throughout. Scale, weight, balance, and the traces of physical labour are interwoven with more direct bodily references. Bones, tubes, cavities, and bodily substances recur as motifs, producing forms that feel at once familiar and uncanny.
