In Plane Sight: Michelle Cobbin

Michelle Cobbin's paintings illuminate the ongoing presence of the United States military at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk. Drawing on personal memories of growing up near the base, as well as her recent participation in peaceful protests there, her work explores the tensions between militarism, peace and the degradation of the natural environment.

Working on paper and unstretched canvas, she creates striking juxtapositions between the innocence and beauty of the natural world and the machinery of war, inviting dialogue around narratives of power, peace and environmental impact.
