Ten Good Years

Ten Good Years is The Heong Gallery's tribute to its very first exhibition, Generation Painting 1955-65, which drew on the collection of Alan Bowness, a Downing College alumnus and former Director of the Tate. The new show brings back a selection of works from that collection by leading mid-twentieth-century artists, among them Peter Lanyon, Alan Davie, Terry Frost, Patrick Heron and Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, and sets them alongside work made over the last decade by contemporary artists including Lubaina Himid, Veronica Ryan and Ro Robertson.

The exhibition is about connections across time. Through contemporary pieces chosen for the way they echo the mid-century work, it shows how themes and places carry from one generation to the next.
