Steve McGough

Steve is from Northampton originally and moved to Essex before finally settling just outside of Saxmundham with his wife and 2 sons, 7 years ago

Steve took Art and Graphics (Technical Drawing) at Secondary School before going on to study Art and Design at College. Falling into regular work put an end to art for some time but he was often inspired by a view which made him pick up his pencils again here and there.

Steve's main inspiration is historical architecture. The style of older buildings makes him want to capture them.

Steve currently uses a mix of watercolour, pen and ink and graphite on most of his work, but also has some ideas for pieces that he wants to create as oil paintings when he gets round to working on them, as he feels the work will look better in oils.

Artist Statement

For me, older buildings have so much character. I love the way there are so many opportunities for beauty in the materials that were used. There are so many areas for light and shadow to play games when you really get to look at them. I like to think that there are also whispers of all the energy that has been and gone and I like to try and capture all this in my paintings although I haven't had the professional training that some have had. I am mainly self taught since my days at college.
