Sachiko Purser

Sachiko Purser is a printmaker and illustrator whose work is inspired by nature, narratives and nostalgia, and explores the impact of the current environment on the natural world. She is passionate about nature and the environment, and especially the welfare of animals and birds. She combines traditional techniques such as Japanese woodblock and sumi-ink painting with a contemporary approach to printmaking and digital techniques, creating hybrids of the organic and the technological.

Her series Endangered Species seeks to raise awareness of the wave of extinction in the natural world through images of vanishing animals and birds, and she donates 50 per cent of the profit from its sales to animal and bird conservation groups. The series was shortlisted for the Discerning Eye exhibition in 2025; she was also shortlisted for the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation's Wildlife Artist of the Year in 2022, and long-listed for the World Illustration Awards.

She graduated from Cambridge School of Art in 2012 with a BA in Illustration, and went on to take an MA in Children's Book Illustration and, more recently, an MA in Printmaking. She has had a solo exhibition at the Dojima Sake Brewery and has shown in group exhibitions including the Woolwich International Contemporary Print Fair in London. She is a member of the Cambridge Drawing Society.
