Julian Perry

One of the pioneers of environmental art in the East of England, Perry's work rewards the viewer on many levels, combining technical virtuosity with a desire to illuminate the impact of human beings on the natural environment, and vice versa.

Julian Perry is a painter based in Dunwich, Suffolk, whose work focuses on the changing landscapes of the British coast. Best known for his large-scale depictions of cliffs, estuaries, and eroding shorelines, Perry combines close observation with a profound awareness of environmental change. He studied at the Chelsea School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools, and has exhibited internationally, including at The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Art, Gainsborough’s House, Southampton City Art Gallery, and commercial galleries in London and New York. Perry’s paintings often address coastal erosion and rising sea levels, using the landscape as both a specific subject and a broader metaphor for vulnerability and loss. Rooted in the traditions of British landscape painting yet acutely contemporary, his work captures the beauty and fragility of places under pressure from the forces of nature and climate change.
